Jonathan Andrew Lear is an academic advisor in UC Berkeley’s Political Economy program. He previously served as a Presidential Management Fellow in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and has taught Japanese history at Santa Clara University and Stanford Continuing Studies. He received his Ph.D. in history from UC Berkeley, where he wrote a dissertation on the history of Japan and West Germany’s commercial atomic energy programs. Previously, Jonathan completed a master’s degree in social sciences at the University of Chicago and a bachelor’s in history at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Jonathan is from Matawan, New Jersey.
